    Summary of chapter 4

The orphanage was situated in the war-torn town of Nepal. At the beginning, he was at an undecided on the volunteer job. He had doubts because he thought he did not have enough skills to carry out the duty, nor did he have enough passion to carry out the job, especially since the country was at war. This though was pacified by the children who were daring, buoyant who put up a challenge to him, and rewarded him in a way he had never thought. When he learned about their actual situations, and how they overcame them, he was amazed. The children were not orphans, but children traffickers had brought them in the orphanage. Child traffickers had promised families in the cities that they would take the children to a place of safety away from the war, but for a huge amount of fee. They then abandoned these children in the city of Kathmandu, where there was an outbreak of war. What seemed to be an adventurous tour turned out to be a mission; that of uniting these children who had left a mark in his life with their families.

connor talked about, when he returned to Little Princes to work Fund- raising and he found out that was hard. At the end of September he received an email from fellow University of Virginia graduate, from person was her name Liz Flanagan. She wanted get more information about article in the Charlottesville newspaper. He also received a lot of emails from people saying they really would like to work with impoverished children someday. Liz wanted to know if next Generation Nepal was possibly joined with global organization that could recommend. On Easter morning 2004, Hoi An - Vietnam, Zambia - with HIV kids, then South Africa, this Christmas she had plan to go to India. When she was twenty- two, she was in England. Anna Howe, she told me everything about Humla, same age his mother, they met up after a few days when he arrived to Nepal, and Anna worked for in Kathmandu, Find Amita in the path standing on the road holding the two bottles, after that he sent her to Umbrella Foundation, and he had received a phone call from Gyan. To let him know that Amita is safe wit Umbrella, they take care of her.
Conor had for some time tried to find young boys in the Nepal region whose whereabouts were not clear to him.As he was playing in the field one day a call came in for him, it was a “Nepali man” called Gyan and he told Conor that four of the boys had been found and two had been taken to hospital for they were malnourished. The hospital so congested and unclean but there was no alternative. Days later the boys pulled through and were taken to the Umbrella Foundation. Two more boys Kumar and Bishnu were still missing. But in less than a week Gyan communicated to Conor that Kumar had been found but he had already been sold as a domestic slave to some government official. Conor had all the best intentions to get Kumar back but it proved to be difficult to even attempt it. He wrote an e-mail to Farid for updates but that was not enough because he felt guilty for not being able to rescue Kumar. Conor then wrote to Liz who eventually calmed him down
When after Conor and Farid find out six children, but a child named Bishnu was still disappear. He has been missing for nine months. Conor has rent an apartment; the children can be seen from his dwelling place. Nepal’s living conditions was different with United States, they do not have heating system and very limited hot water, so when Conor first time lived in his new apartment, he was freezing, he set up camp in his room. Conor’s lining place has many monkeys, those monkey often hanging off his Internet cable line and cut off his connection to the outside. After a period of time, conor build a good relationship with monkeys. Conor told Liz about his experience, he really wants to Liz visit Nepal and he invites Liz come to Nepal to see children. Liz thought serious considerations finally agree Conor’s invitation.

    Analysis
The author is successful in passing his idea to the audience. He uses various literature devices to tell his story. Suspense is used effectively as the story makes one wants to know what happens after each page. The author appeals to the emotions of the people by bringing out the problems these children face.
Connor showed his humanity in this chapter and how he never gives up finding those children and he did not know that he can be able to find them but he found the little princes Amita in the path standing on the road holding the two bottles.
It is a memoir written by Conor Grennan about young children being sold as domestic slavers in Nepal and being forced to survive in the harshest conditions of starvation and malnutrition. The locals like Gyan seem to know of the illegal inhuman business but nobody can do anything about it. Worst is that one of the young boy was sold to a government official which shows how law enforcement is somehow weak in Nepal especially under the human rights department. The medical sector in Nepal is also alarming as the best hospital available is not up to standards.
Chapter 4 was the highlight of the whole book. This chapter describes the Conor and Farid look for child was a difficult process. In my opinions, since Conor’s first step on the ground of Nepal, he could not image that he living in this barren land for three years. And in order to find the lost child home, he went to Humla several times. You will be surprised that what kind of power makes him going to there. To tell the truth, I do not know the reason, but when I finished reading the book, I was impressed by the Conor. Conor has returned to the United State, in other words, he did not have responsibility to back to the Nepal, but the child who lived in home of the little prince keep his heart and catch his all the attention. In the end of this chapter, Conor invited Liz visited Nepal, this made matting for the back of the plot.

Help with introducing quoted and paraphrased material

Group 3: Brandon Doege, Chuyan Gao, Alhajri Hazza

A teacher comments that your paper does not flow well. What do you do?

    Transitions:
    • transitions are phrases or words used to connect one idea to the next
    • transitions are used by the author to help the reader progress from one significant idea to the next
    • transitions also show the relationship within a paragraph (or within a sentence) between the main idea and the support the author gives for those ideas
    • different transitions do different things
    • Examples of transition words
      • Actually, Additionally, Also, Lastly, Furthermore, First, Second, Third, Finally
    https://www.msu.edu/~jdowell/135/transw.html

    Parallel Structure:
    • Parallel structure means using the same pattern of words to show that two or more ideas have the same level of importance. This can happen at the word, phrase, or clause level. The usual way to join parallel structures is with the use of coordinating conjunctions such as "and" or "or."
How do I fix Parallel Structure?
    • Skim your paper, pausing at the words "and" and "or." Check on each side of these words to see whether the items joined are parallel. If not, make them parallel.
    • If you have several items in a list, put them in a column to see if they are parallel.
    • Listen to the sound of the items in a list or the items being compared. Do you hear the same kinds of sounds? For example, is there a series of "-ing" words beginning each item? Or do your hear a rhythm being repeated? If something is breaking that rhythm or repetition of sound, check to see if it needs to be made parallel.

    Dangling and misplaced modifiers:

    Definition:
    • A dangling modifier is a word or phrase that modifies a word not clearly stated in the sentence. A modifier describes, clarifies, or gives more detail about a concept
Strategies for dangling and misplaced modifiers
    • Name the appropriate or logical doer of the action as the subject of the main clause
        • Having arrived late for practice, a written excuse was needed.
      • Who arrived late? This sentence says that the written excuse arrived late. To revise, decide who actually arrived late. The possible revision might look like this:
        • Having arrived late for practice, the team captain needed a written excuse.
      • The main clause now names the person (the captain) who did the action in the modifying phrase (arrived late).
    • Change the phrase that dangles into a complete introductory clause by naming the doer of the action in that clause
        • Without knowing his name, it was difficult to introduce him.
      • Who didn't know his name? This sentence says that "it" didn't know his name. To revise, decide who was trying to introduce him. The revision might look something like this:
        • Because Maria did not know his name, it was difficult to introduce him.
      • The phrase is now a complete introductory clause; it does not modify any other part of the sentence, so is not considered "dangling."
    • Combine the phrase and main clause into one
        • To improve his results, the experiment was done again.
      • Who wanted to improve results? This sentence says that the experiment was trying to improve its own results. To revise, combine the phrase and the main clause into one sentence. The revision might look something like this:
        • He improved his results by doing the experiment again.

    Fixing wordiness with concise writing:

    Definition:
    • The goal of concise writing is to use the most effective words. Concise writing does not always have the fewest words, but it always uses the strongest ones. Writers often fill sentences with weak or unnecessary words that can be deleted or replaced
    Strategies for eliminating wordiness
      • Replace several vague words with more powerful and specific words.
      • Interrogate every word in a sentence
        • Check every word to make sure that it is providing something important and unique to a sentence
      • Combine Sentences
        • Some information does not require a full sentence, and can easily be inserted into another sentence without losing any of its value
    http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/572/01/

    Vocabulary:
    • How do you improve your vocabulary?
      • Make it a priority to learn new words
        • Decide to learn one new word every day or two
      • Make your vocabulary practical
        • Start by learning the words that can express what’s most important to you
      • Find the right word for you and use it
        • When you’re writing something, use a thesaurus frequently

    The Little Princes Summarize

    The Little Princes Summarize

The Little Princes book is talk about humanity.  The civil war was in Nepal 2004 and because of that many people were suffering from the hunger and without money to life. The author was trying to be parents for Nepal’s children because they are at The Little Princes Orphanage. The author did not married yet before he went to Nepal.  First of all, he had a plan to travel around the world on his vacation, but when he got to Nepal he saw children faces and he understood their feeling. Then, he decided to help them to be successful people in the future. Most families in Nepal are poor families, so they sale their children because of money. Then, he promised himself to return children to their parents and make their families proud of their children. Also, their families do not know how it can be risky for adopt children to live in new society. There are some families cannot give the adopt children families their money, so they decided to return children back to their families. After that, he continue his plan which is traveling around the world, but when he finished his plan he decided to go back to Nepal because he felt orphanage children are calling him to come. By the way, orphanage children were unhappy because he will leave them and continue his plan. Also, he promised Nepalese children he will come back after one year to Nepal. However, he was trying to build a safe life for Nepal’s children. Moreover, he wants children to stay with their families and get a good care from their families. In my perspective, the author volunteered in Nepal at the Little Princes children’s home in the village in 2004, but also he was respecting the humanity for children. Additionally, there are few people can do the same situation and he is one of them. So, I respect what he had done because he respected children’s right.

Comparing between Conor's reasons of going to Nepal

According to the author of "Little Princes" Conor Grennan had deep thinking to go away with himself in anywhere in the world with no idea about what he will doing after that. However, when he just worry about his family and friends because no one know about where he will go or what he will do. So, at that moment he just decided to do humanity work. Therefor he decided Nepal it's a great place to do that because Nepalese children needs more help from the world and that will be make his family and friends proud to him.

Initially, Conor Grennan did not decide to would stay a long time there. But, when he got a responsibility for a children and he feel about them, he got understand could not go away from a child for long time. So he promised children he just comes back after year.

If we want to comparing Conor's  reasons we found that it's completely different with his first even when he just decided to go anywhere with no idea. However, when we see to his second reason, we found when he just thinking to leave them, he felt bad because they became as his family.
